NEWSLETTER 24th NOVEMBER 2009
PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
I look forward to seeing you at the P&C Annual General Meeting tonight in the staffroom at 7.30pm. I will be updating you on the Building Program and our vision for Ryde East Public School for 2010.
Our school has an Extreme and Wet Weather Policy. When there are days of extreme heat, dust, wind or storms our students remain indoors during recess and lunch times. Last Friday was one such day. Sport was cancelled and the students benefited from remaining in our air conditioned classrooms.
Our Kindergarten teachers last week attended a two day inservice course on Best Start. This program aims at giving our Kindergarten students the best start to their learning of literacy and numeracy. All our new 2010 Kindergarten students will be assessed within the first weeks of Term 1 by our Kindergarten teachers. If you have a child starting Kindergarten and would like them to be assessed prior to starting school, assessments will also take place on Thursday 28th or Friday 29th January 2010. Please contact our Assistant Principal for Kindergarten, Mr Greg Miller by Friday 4th December if one of these dates is convenient for you.
The teachers have been busy writing Semester Two Student Reports which will be sent home on Monday 7th December. If you would like to have an interview with your child’s class teacher please make an appointment.

At this point there will be a few teams from Ryde East who will be participating in the semis. The semi finals will be held this Friday at Meadowbank Park, and transport to and from the venue will be by bus departing school at 12.15pm. No extra cost will be incurred.

Milo Cup Cricket
On Wednesday 11th November 2009, the senior cricket team went to ELS Hall Park to participate in the Milo Cup Cricket Gala Day. Our first game was against Carlingford West. We scored 78 runs but unfortunately Carlingford West came in and scored 84. Our next game was against Gladesville, they scored 66 and we scored 58. We then played Eastwood Heights. We got our highest score yet 115. They then went in to bat and got 37. Lastly we played Ermington in a play off for 5th and 6th we scored 80 and Ermington scored 61. People that retired on twenty were Kyle, Daniel, Archie, Mackenzie, Zac and James. Everyone played really well. Thank you Mr North for taking us and Mrs Wilson for organising the day.
By Kyle and Daniel (cricket captains).
PSSA Junior Soccer Report
The Junior Soccer team had a great season. We won most of our games but unfortunately we just missed out on making the semi-finals. Everybody played well and fair. We only lost to Gladesville and Ermington. Thank you to our coach Mr Warn and his ‘assistants’ Mr Williams and Mr North, who coached for one term.
Our team was:
Josh: A great keeper who played brilliantly all season
Curtis: One of our best right-footers who played at right midfield superbly
Jay: A fantastic centre midfielder who helped to get a heap of our goals
Sam: ‘Sam played awesomely and captained us well throughout the whole
year’ written by Curtis)
Morgan: A great right hand side defender who saved lots of goals
Steven: An amazing left-mid player who crossed the ball beautifully
Koray: Central defender who held the team together and was a great penalty
taker
Aymon: A fantastic striker who got most of the team’s goals
Lucas: A great skilful player who ripped the ball past the other team every
time
Noah: An excellent left-sided defender who cleared the ball away from goal
Hussein: Very good striker who only played three games but scored a goal
Jack: Superb defender who changed with Noah and cleared the ball from
our half
Eli: Another great defender who could play any position when asked
Douglas: A fantastic left midfielder who beat the opposition players beautifully.
I really enjoyed captaining the team and I wish the boys good luck for the next season.
Sam – 4W
Junior A Netball Team
The Junior A Netball team had a smasher of a season and won every game for the first time since 1997. Everyone had an awesome time playing. But the most challenging game was against Boronia Park Public School in the Grand Finals, where we won 6-11, thanks to our fantastic defence who kept the ball away from Boronia’s shooters.
We only won thanks to our fantastic coach Mrs Kalil who helped us during the season. The whole team played really well throughout the season, and standing up at Meadowbank Park and receiving our medals was a real treat.
By Tamara Valentine & Wendy Guo
Soccer Report
This year the Senior Soccer team had a great season coming in 3rd place. Harri and I thought that we had a great opportunity to make it to the Grand Final but unfortunately we did not. We had only lost 3 games and that was a very good result I thought. Also we had great fun.
Our best goal scorer was James. Our best players were Isaac, Tom, Harrison and Mackenzie.
Thank you to Mr Warn, Mr North, Mr Williams and Miss Wilson for taking us to Meadowbank Park and for training the boys.
Isaac and Harrison
